Fellowship of SDrA

Sports Doctors Australia offers the Fellowship category of membership to its members. In general, this is a recognition of higher education of the member and shows the group's confidence in the level of competence and special skills of the member.

Becoming a Fellow of SDrA requires that the person is an ordinary member or qualifies to be an ordinary member and has achieved a Master's degree in sports medicine or the equivalent. Additional requirements include:

  • a commitment to ongoing CME in sports medicine at a state, National or International level
  • showing extensive experience in the practice of sports medicine at a level commensurate with being considered a Fellow
  • as well as having a significant ongoing clinical practice in Sports Medicine.
Other issues that may taken into account by the credentialing committee is a significant involvement in research and teaching in sports medicine or a long term involvement (>15 years) in high level sports medicine.

Fellows stand out as role models for sports doctors in achieving a high level of specific interest and assurance of a high level of clinical skill and knowledge for their patients.

An exciting development is that this process, once refined, may be the basis for fellowship of the Faculty of Specific Interest in Sports Medicine with the RACGP. This has the potential to provide GPs with an interest in Sports Medicine, a chance to be recognised for their higher achievements and skills in sports medicine.

Should you have any enquiries about this process or want to consider application, please contact the Secretary by email.
