Education Activity of SDrA

A number of SDrA member are actively involved in education of sporting healthcare workers. This offers members a great opportunity to get National and World level information and education.

SMA National Conference
At the annual conferance of Sports Medicine Australia, SDrA has been providing an excellent range of eucational activities. These range from the provision of clinical workshops, procedural workshops and a sports doctors education afternoon.

On top of this, we organise key note speakers that will be of interest to sports doctors. In general, this is usually a notable overseas speaker. The speaker and topics are then incorporated into a conference theme. Up-to-date information about this conference can be obtained from SMA...

SDrA continues to provide a nationally acknowledged emergency medicine course at this conference. The Sports Medicine Emergency Care Course (SMECC) is a professionally developed and presented course, based on evidence based emergancy care, but with a bias towards on-field emergency care. The course satisfies the RACGP requirement for the procedural skills grant. Stations provide practical skills training in advanced airway management, advanced cardiac life support, venous access, care of spinal injuries and much more. RACGP National Conference
As part of our relationship with the RACGP, we have started to provide education activities at the National conference. This allows us to provide concise and relevent education with a strong primary care bias for GPs. This has been well received and we look forward to continuing to provide this service for GPs. State based education
Sports Medicine teaching is performed by a number of our members in each state for a large number of groups. This includes State SMA teaching, GP training through undergraduate, GP registrar and post-Fellowship through Universities, GP training organisations and Divisions or GP, to mention a few. Many of our members also teach at club level, etc.

Curriculum development
SDrA was actively involved in the development of the first ever curriculum in Sports Medicine for the RACGP.

RACGP Faculty of Specific Interest
SDrA, through its involvement in the FSI, is in the process of developing educational programs for the specific teaching of Sports Medicine to GPs who have an interest in Sports Medicine. We are currently actively involved in developing standards and educational pathways for sports medicine modules, Graduate Diploma and Masters Degree in Sports Medicine through the University of Queensland.
